An artist creates out of a compulsion to express something. The artwork is a reflection of the artist. But to what extent it is rarely known. It’s that mystery that intrigues the public. Leaves us asking questions. A reason we turn to critics and curators for context and explanation. Why we read biographies, and watch art documentaries. The subject of this documentary is, Swiss painter, Andy Denzler. The film will be an investigation into “character and accomplishment, motive and madness, beauty and ugliness;” a filmic version of a ‘Profile’ piece you might read in The New Yorker magazine. We’ll see Denzler‘s painterly process in the studio, from idea to finished canvas. We’ll meet prominent peers, art critics, curators, collectors and gallerists, as they talk about Andy and his oeuvre.  And, we’ll reveal Andy Denzler as a person — the influences and life experiences that imbue his work. The viewer gets a filmic portrait of an artist whose cautious demeanour belies a serial risk taker (both in art and life), and whose relentless work ethic has propelled him to the enviable position he is in today – respected artist in the ever fickle world of high art.
